![]() The same good and bad things that can be said about the passing game in the PlayStation version can be said again for Madden on PlayStation 2. While the general pace of the game is a little slower than the other football titles, it feels better in my book because the relative speed of the players seems handled in a much more accurate way that it is in other games.īeyond the physics model, which feels more refined than it does in the game's PlayStation brethren, the rest of the game pretty plays the same. The only other complaint that we can see people having with the movement in Madden is that it feels a bit slow compared to other football games on the market, including the 32-bit version of the game on PlayStation. Because momentum is factored into the equation, the onscreen athletes won't always be able turn exactly where they want to instantly, which can be frustrating for some game players. People wanting complete and unadulterated control of the onscreen characters might feel that the reactions of the players aren't as fast and responsive as what they expect in a videogame. It's possible to realistically position defenders to get blocked by your full back and take seams exactly like a player would in a genuine football game. Some people don't like this, but it makes for some plays that work out in a very realistic fashion because player momentum can be used to your advantage just like in a real NFL game. If you're moving in one direction at full speed, it won't be possible to change your direction instantly like you can in other games. Because of this the players move and react just like they would in a real life situation. The Madden series has pretty much been the only one that has really factored in momentum and it has been done better here on PS2 than ever before in the series. The one thing that this game does better than other football games, including previous releases in the series, is its realistic physics model that makes the game feel more like real football than what you'll get in any other football game. The feel of the game hasn't really changed and people that are completely familiar with the any of the previous releases in the series will find themselves right at home when playing this version of the game. Go get it.Gameplay The best way to describe the gameplay in Madden NFL 2001 on PlayStation 2 is that it plays just like Madden. ![]() Still when you look at all the positives and negatives this game is (probably) the best football game made on the PC. But the option to turn off the players helps. Second the players on the sidelines are still horrible. If John Madden would just shut up and quit talking, I might be able to handle the voiceovers. However I have noticed a couple of things that bugged me. Well much to my embarrassment I have found that the game does have players names available. I reviewed this title before and mentioned some items that I though the game lacked and should have had. With the last two madden titles the sound has been outstanding. Overall this is a leap forward even for madden. Game play is the same and they even tossed in a few new perks like Real Coach's plays. Now after you play the game for a few days you dont find yourself turning off the announcer. Second Pat Summerall's performance is a million times better. First the field and stadium look 300 times better. I had been playing Madden 2000, and the difference was apparent from the get go. No kidding here folks, this game has the best, most blow you away graphics out there today. ![]() (not by choice) And when I sat down to try out my new game (Madden 2001) she sit back on the bed and decided to see what this new game looked like. My wife has become very knowledgeable about PC games over the last 4 years of our marriage.
